Taxonomy
[edit]Hiya, I noticed the scientific name was changed to Lyrurus tetrix. However a more or less indepth search for this change in naming didn't show much evidence for it. So I went by what seems to be the concensus of reverting back to Tetrao tetrix. Please correct me if I am wrong. I totally agree with this opinion. Every important authority (IUCN, ITIS, Howard & Moore, HBW (online)), follow the same taxonomy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.65.120.130 (talk) 17:08, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- iucnredlist.org website gives Lyrurus as the primary name, and Tetrao as a synonym. Though, it claims that both were coined by Linnaeus in 1758. 91.154.188.185 (talk) 18:27, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Some of the text does not make sense anymore - "... still bears its original binomial name. Both Tetrao and tetrix come from Ancient Greek words referring to some form of game bird ..." although the binomial name is "Lyrurus tetrix". It needs some editing.
