Hello all
[edit]I had created an account a few months ago but haven't really been logging in, despite regularly reading Wikipedia just for fun! I am a mathematics student who is also very interested in languages, in Japanese / Cantonese language and Korean culture. I have been a big fan of Wikipedia for quite a long time. I am not too confident in starting anything new or editing anything much but I hope I'll get used to it!

[edit]Hi, everyone. I'm Carmine Borzelli aka NJ Stargazer. My expertise is in Astronomy and related scientific fields. I worked for Liberty Science Center for 4 years, teaching Astronomy and other sciences. Prior to that, I was in the accounting, finance and statistical fields over 40 years. My interest in Astronomy began around the time I was 5, (or even younger). I came across Wikipedia several days ago when I was looking for info on the solar system, (ours). I'd be interested in hearing from anyone, (everyone). Let me know how I can be of help. I am currently retired and hope to change that status soon. Regards to all Wikierians. Carmine Borzelli BTW, did you see Venus and Jupiter side by side in this morning's dawn sky,(05:30am EST)? 12.75.187.133 20:15, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Howdy, I made an account a little while ago after editing several articles anonymously.. I figured I might as well get some credit, right? Anyway, I'm a grad student in the dept. of Pharmacology and Toxicology at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. I think this project is one of the most excellent resources of the World Wide Web and I end up randomly crawling the pages during my lunch breaks to learn something new. My interests include biology (of course), Shotokan karate, Acadian French, motorcycling, hunting, skunks, and eye research, among many others. FMephit 06:26, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hiya Everybody
[edit]I guess I'm not strictly a new user, I've been editing for about a month now, but I haven't got around to saying "hi" and introducing myself yet. I found out about wikipedia through a link on the website themodernword.com. I'm a second year English student at Leicester University in England. I have visited before, but...
[edit]I have used Wikipedia many times in the past, but I never officially signed up until recently. I wish to add meaningful information to stubs and substubs, but I think I'll lurk a bit first so I don't make a fool of myself and ruin entries.
Thank you so much, Wikipedia.

[edit]I found out about wikipedia on an NPR show. I am really interested in computers and have a pretty good amount of knowledge in programming Perl.
idea maybe
[edit]I'm brand new to wikipedia & I have a suggestion that I think will make navigating easier. Automatically have the cursor placed in the search field! I have been using wiki for about a month now and think it would really improve effectivness. it's not a problem now, but I often start typing a new search word and find that I am not in the search field, if the cursor remained in the search field after every search it would be great for me... anyone else agree. I've used other sites that use this tool and it works well. Thanx

Webdtangler AKA Stormshadow
[edit]Hey there, hi! Welcome to my New User Log. I became aware of the WIKI project while conducting research on the Internet. Over the years, as more & more results referred back to the ever expanding available contents of these marvelous pages, I knew that I should become involved.
As for my "areas of knowledge." I'll have to do a personal inventory to figure what it is I actually know vs. what I only think I know, *LOL* but here again is another great reason to spend "quality time" right here with the WIKI project!
Firstly, I like to think that I have a good eye for copy editing, so I feel that I will do more good than harm by my input to the project. My interests are myriad, & of course my aptitude & ability varies from one to the next.
I aspire to write (one day) among other things, and seek experience & the feedback of my fellows, while cultivating better habits towards my goals. Some of the types of writing I am pursuing in alphabetical order are Educational; Journalistic; Novella; Poetry; Scientific; Screenplay; Short Story; Social Commentary; Technical, & Travel.
Some of my interests include: Alternative Energy; Animal Behavior; Aquatic & Amphibious Animals; Archeology; Architecture Artistic Expressionism; Astronomy; Automotive Engineering; Aviation; Backpacking; Biking; Bioengineering; Boating; Business; Calligraphy; Camping; Canids; Cartography; Civil Engineering; Computing; Dramatic Arts; Ecology; Education; Endangered Species; Equines; Etymology; Felines; Fishing; Fitness; Genetics; Geography; Health; Herbology; History; Indigenous Cultures; Internet Culture; Juggernauts; Justice; Karmic Theosophy; Languages; Marsupials; Martial & Healing Arts; Meteorological Phenomena; Nautical Studies; Oceanography; Philosophy; Physics; Poetry; Potlatch; Quantum Theory; Rock Climbing; Search & Rescue Technology; Space Exploration; Spirituality; Transportation; Travel; Unexplained Phenomena; Visualization Therapy; Walkabout; Yoga; Zoology; Äktenskap; Äkthet; Älska; Ändra; Ärlighet; Ätten; Äventyret; Ödet; Ö & Ök Liv; Ömhet; Öppenhet; Överbefolkning; Övergrepp; Överlanggning; Övernaturlig; Övning.
More on me later. ~M;] 15:24, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Been using Wikipedia for a while, was introduced to it on the Animal Crossing Forums in a topic about the most useful online resources. [edit]Since testing pre-release Firefox builds is not possible anymore, I wanted something new... I like the idea of Wikipedia, and although I speak Dutch as my first language, I think the English wiki project will give me more satisfaction.
I study law, but that's not something I'm planning to write about.
My first Wiki-action was the picture of Goya in the Goya article.
How many of these wikipedians are there anyway?? I'll find out soon enough by searching this site I guess...

Hi from a not very new user..
[edit]what ho there, having used Wikipedia a few times I found an irritating point that cried out for editing in July of this year, and one thing led to another. Most of what's got me contributing is Scottish history, meaning world history from a Scottish perspective (as opposed to English history, all too often), but I Am Not A Historian, more a designer with a range of interests. One thing I'm finding is a depth and quality in many Wikipedia articles way beyond the Britannica DVD - and with this you can correct the errors, and debate contentious points on the talk pages. Really impressive, thanks - dave souza 05:35, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Wikipedia,
this is a great project. I like the idea and the professional way you keep things up here.
My Name is Gerald Stiehler. I live in Germany, in a small town near Frankfurt.
I'm a trained psychologist (Diplompsychologe) and psychotherapist (Psychologischer Psychotherapeut - that's what they call it in Germany). Here I run a practice specialising on phobias & anxieties.
As English is not my native tongue, I'll be writing in ther german wikipedia most of the time.

About time
[edit]About time
[edit]The header says it all - I have admired the wiki project for a long time, and am delighted to be able to help in some small way. My interests are in the field of health. I am a practising medical doctor, but am heavily into the newer approaches to health which focus on nutritional support - in fact, with excellent results for serious illness. Which also means that the current medical approaches to health are probably insufficient for future health needs.
Oh yes - I sail and dive too, so water and the marine woorld matters, which eads on to environmental health issues.

[edit]I found this major endeavour quite by accident I assure you. I first read about it on The Onion in an articl about Weird Al. So I Goggled and here I am. This being the second time I visited this sight, I was distressed to find out that vandalism has been sourced from this IP. I would like to firmly state that I have no part in that particular activity and know nothing that would lead you to the actual culprit. I am a firm believer in the free and accurate dispersal of information and it would never be my intention to corrupt your worthy efforts. For what it's worth, you have my oath on it. As to how I can contribute, I can't readily say at present. Although I am employed in an educational field, unfortunately it's a worm's eye view that undoubtedly holds little interest for those of you reading this. My interests are dispersed through military history, biology and superficial fancies with politics and sciences. I'm a dilitante of the lowest order. But if I find it in my power to contribute something, I shall. Paul Pitt 13:41, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)Paul Pitt

[edit]Hey everyone! I'm a Junior in High School, so I don't have much experience to offer Wikipedia except for a few specific fields, such as lifeguarding (my job), homeschooling, the Boy Scouts of America, and a number of different things. I'm 15 =) My main interests? Music - I've played the piano for about 8+ years, and have recently started improvising/composing. I'm in the process of switching teachers so I can learn more about improvision and composition. I might want to try minoring in music once I go on to college in a few years. If I find a wiki page on the subject I'd like to join in on the discussion. Over the past few summers I've been really active outdoors, and am very familiar with trails and hiking in and around the Cascades east of Seattle, Washington. While hiking here is similar to hiking in other places, what one would want to bring on a hike here is a bit different, due to the climate: rain, rain, and more rain. Despite all this, there are some really beautiful views and trails one can take in the area. I'm somewhat interested in starting a wiki page on the trails in western Washington, but I think I should probably get together with other people who are also interested and know about the area first.
Pardon me, I forgot to say how I found Wikipedia! I'm working on a research paper on the rise of Online Music, from the earliest illegal peer-to-peer file sharing systems to Apple's iTunes, and how they compare to other methods to obtain music. In doing the research I consistently found something called "Wikipedia article ___" when searching Google for information on my subject. Your articles were most helpful in allowing me to find good sources, by linking to several from the "file sharing" and "online music store" Wikipedia pages, as well as other which I do not remember.
