Academic debate

[edit]

This whole section on the "Academic debate" around racial profiling is weird to me. I understand that philosophers have varying ideas on this topic, but I don't think Wikipedia should be the platform for which these are debated. Racial profiling exists, it has harmful consequences, and that is what the article should focus on. This whole philosophical debate is interesting but belongs in an opinion essay, ethics paper, or blog. I think the entire "Pro" section should be deleted to mitigate the high risk here for implicit bias and persuasive tones. The "Cons" section actually does a good job at explaining the violent implications of racial profiling in a neutral tone and with good sources/citations, so I think it could stand alone as its own main dropdown section, with a new title, for example "Harmful consequences" or "Implications of racial profiling." I changed the titles from "Pros" to "Justifications" and "Cons" to "Consequences" to mitigate risk for bias and maintain neutrality. I feel that the information contained in each section is mostly valuable so I don't want to blatantly delete anything, but the format needs some reconfiguring in terms of the philosophical nature in an encyclopedic site. If anyone has recommendations for new subcategory names, or new ways to format these sections internally, I welcome any and all ideas! Turtlegirl33 (talk) 23:04, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Latino men?

[edit]

"and Latinx men are killed at higher rates than White men."

If I understand correctly, latino is used for males, so it would make more sense to change it to latino men. For anyone more familiar with guidelines for when to use which of latino/latina/latinx please either change the word or respond. 2A04:7F80:109A:9900:E83E:B2F:215:1E6F (talk) 11:11, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
