[edit]I wonder how the system used here at Wikipedia fits in with all this...
Not suitable for children?
[edit]Wikipedia is allowed to make such opinionated comments?
Status?
[edit]Is anyone actively working on the overall content of this article? I think there are some improvements that we can make, and I am happy to try to help if no one else has time to do. Uberveritas 07:24, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- I wanted to inquire again to see if anyone is working on this article. I see some work that needs to be done. Also, while Slashdot is referenced many times across the internet, I think we need to see some additional examples. Slashdot is one example of many types of moderation system. I think a new structure should be created for this article. (Uberveritas 06:05, 15 May 2007 (UTC))
If you are still around, Uberveritas, why not go ahead and edit the article directly? After all this time you should feel justified to do so. Or, if you still have doubts, propose the changes in this page first. --213.227.18.42 (talk) 22:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Facilitation.com ?
[edit]I removed the link to facilitaiton.com. It just looks like plainful spam to me. Feel free to reverse if I missed something. --Iv 14:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Is the Electric Frontier Foundation relevant here?
[edit]Can somebody explain why the we link to the EFF advocacy site? While I don't doubt that it's germane to blogging in general, I don't see how it directly relates to moderation systems. Kansan (talk) 17:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Moderation not on internet
[edit]Only internet moderation is mentioned here and it only refers to deleting messages and banning users. I think moderation is much more than just that and is quite a complex subject. The concept of off-topic is not even mentioned but other are "irrelevant, obscene, illegal, or insulting with regards to useful or informative contributions." Well, the most importante function of a Moderator is to make sure that posts are on topic, for a start. Other factors are secondary. Also, what about moderating a debate on a radio program, for instance? Yes, more work needs be done here. --213.227.18.42 (talk) 22:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- As for moderating off-topic comments, that would fall under the word "irrelevant", which is in there, as you mentioned. Also, moderating debates is an entirely different thing, and the only thing it has in common with moderating systems is the word "moderating". This article is specifically about moderating comments. Proposed merge of Content moderation and working conditions into Content moderation
[edit]Lots of professions have problematic working conditions that have been documented, but I don't see why there's a need to have this broken out into its own article (with a title not likely to be expected). This could be a moderately-sized section in content moderation and would be sufficient coverage. ZimZalaBim talk 22:47, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- @ZimZalaBim I initially considered it, but the scope of this article will be much larger. As this is a new article, I would ask you to hold off on merging or judging it solely by what's currently present. This is analogous to Teacher and Education as overlapping but distinct domains, with students, parents being relevant recipients of education, but not focus of Teacher article.
- The initial article Content moderation has a broader scope from content/consumer side, algorithmic management, voluntary moderation (no mention of Wikipedia as an example?) etc…
- Inside this article I wish to expand specifically on certain countries where working conditions are highlighted, namely US, Kenya, India, Philippines, China which have different local conditions and challenges.
- I am currently cracking through two books I obtained, "Custodians of the internet" and "Content Moderation in the Shadows of Social Media" and will contribute to both articles accordingly. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 07:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- In terms of article name alternatives for Content moderation and working conditions, perhaps the simplest would be Content moderator which makes it clear it's focused on the (paid) humans, as opposed to content moderation which is the broader activity/concept. Academic literature uses varied terms from "Custodians of the internet", "Invisible workers of social media", "Online crowdworkers", "Digital clickworkers" and they all have slightly different connotations. Redirects would be possible, but I want to flesh/solidify the article bodies first. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 08:34, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see at all how this is analgous to teacher vs education. This seems indscriminate carving out of one particular dimension of being a content moderator. And while you seem to be promising a more robust article in the future, that's what draft space is for. --ZimZalaBim talk 12:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

- I agree with the merge. We don't have a separate article for "fast food worker" or "fast food working conditions", those subjects are covered in the article on fast food. ---Avatar317(talk) 05:25, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Avatar317 @ZimZalaBim I've merged the articles together, so we can focus on the content. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 11:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
