please be more careful when reverting

[edit]

In reverting supposed vandalism on the Smoking Ban discussion page you inadvertently also removed the person's legitimate non-vandalism opinion.

I don't recall seeing that additional text at the time. Either I missed it, or the Mediawiki software is doing funny things with the history list (see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) for some discussions about this). -- Curps 01:05, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit]

Hi Curps,

I just thought I would bring to your attention the amount of ninja edits which are taking place in the videos section. I run *WOD which is a video blog which I've been running ever since the tsunami, it's relevant to the section and gets updated daily with new and ongoing content.

In a nutshell I'm seeing my link constantly being deleted by anonymous IP's with comments such as 'removed link to my homepage'.

Just thought I would bring it to your attention, cheerio and keep up the good work.

NextWish's edit to Talk:2004 Indian Ocean earthquake

[edit]

Sorry about that cups, I'll fix that up.

Clarification

[edit]

"If you are trying to add entries to "votes for deletion", please carefully read the instructions at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. What you were doing was very careless. " -- Netkinetic

You'll have to clarify on how it was careless. If I've made a mistake, please explain what it is, that will assist in my not repeating it. Thx. -- Netkinetic

Winthrop (crater) and Big Bertha (Nintendo character) edits. -- Curps 06:14, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Please be more specific. Apparently I used the wrong format to mark that page for possible deletion. Thx.

Sorry Curps!

[edit]

Don't know what I was thinking when I left the message on the wrong page. Anyway, I found Wiki's info on how to make Japanese loan words plural. Doesn't support your position unfortunately: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_plural. We can talk over the position more if you like, but tsunami seems better to me on so many levels! If you are willing, I have been trying to drum up peer review for an article (disaster) I improved. Love to have a critical eye take a look at it. Revmachine21 10:00, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback and the corrections on the disaster page. I've taken your recommendation and trimmed the etymology bit but my opinion on the synonyms is that the synonym articles are underdeveloped in most cases. I will take a second look at that section and decide on a case by case basis. I also added a disaster survival section and reworked the article structure. Thanks again.

The 'tsunamis' thing is causing me physical pain to read but whatever. Say la vie... Revmachine21 05:46, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Your track record of "contributions" speaks for itself. -- Curps 01:54, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I did too create Desire. But you're right about Strom and Condalangus. I just thought they were funny. Sorry, I'll let Condalangus die.

Land123... is mine. So are potatoe56, and 57. I think I might have 1 more name, but I can't remember.

Anyway, thank you for your polite note, and I'll let Condalangus die.

Hi, sorry I've been gone due to some computer troubles but I fixed my sig tag. Thanks for the tip. --Ryan! | Talk 13:13, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)

Heat Shield Rock

[edit]

Just wanted to say that I like how the Heat Shield Rock (meteorite) article is turning out, as you created it and did most of the editing. I am willing to help out with any of the articles that are rover discoveries (i.e. Endurance Crater, Bonneville Crater, Columbia Hills, etc. I have already created an article for the Apollo 1 Hills. Riffsyphon1024 17:23, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hopefully it can be expanded on somewhat and then be truly deserving of its own article. Riffsyphon1024 17:29, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I think it deserves its own article. Among other things, additional images can be added, and I've already created redirects for Grissom Hill, Chaffee Hill and White Hill. -- Curps 20:54, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
You're right. I could create individual images for each hill and post them below the larger panorama. Riffsyphon1024 06:02, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Re:Hawaiian monarchy

[edit]

I moved the pages per the discussion at Talk:Kalakaua and Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(names_and_titles)#Monarchy_of_Hawaii. The conventions were designed for mainly to European monarchy and I believe we're allowed a bit more leniency for others. Please discuss at the naming conventions page if you disagree or have other ideas. --Jiang 04:08, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I have now made you an admin. Congradulations. Please familiarize yourself with policy before using your new powers. And again, congradulations. →Raul654 05:00, Jan 25, 2005 (UTC)

My congrats too. It's been a pleasure working with you so far. Sorry I missed the adminship vote...

USA

[edit]

I wasn't talking about your comments, and I was glad you pointed out the double-barrel nature of the proposal. And I most definitely should not have taken Halibutt at face value the second time around. But there were a lot of comments which seemed to have a sub-text that it was somehow insulting to consider moving United States to United States of America - for example:

Oppose with extreme prejudice. United States is used unambiguously on literally thousands of pages, which shows there's no need to move the article. And the latter half of the move would mean having to change all of those links to avoid a disambig page, which is beyond stupid. (This vote is intended to be read as an insult.) sjorford:// 16:33, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

which was only the most direct one like that.

I have no criticism of your actions. I appreciate your effort - Guettarda 21:12, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

OK, thanks for your comment. I'm glad there's no misunderstanding.
I can't speak for sjorford, but he may have just been reacting strongly to Halibutt's comment that the term United States is highly ambiguous, and protesting against the need to edit "thousands" of pages to change United States to United States of America if the former ever became a disambiguation page. -- Curps 21:41, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Maybe, but I live in Oklahoma, I know that sentiment all too well...maybe I read more into that that s/he meant, but I was getting that sense even before his/her comment. Guettarda 21:46, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Charles Darwin

[edit]

Thank you for starting the arbitration process regarding Vincent's behavior in editing the Charles Darwin article. You have presented the longest list of evidence that I've ever seen for a WP:RfAr. Along with all the other contributions from other editors, the Arbitration Committee should get a very good idea of Vincent's behavior. I do have one suggestion, since I am not supposed to edit anyone else's information on the Evidence page. It would probably be a good idea to identify all of those early edits where Vincent was adding the Abraham Lincoln trivia into the "Early Life" section. gK ¿? 06:14, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Well, I think he was added it there up to and including December 17, then put it in trivia right up to and including December 22, then added it to early life again up to and including December 24. Does that seem about right? I didn't add it in when I created it, because it wasn't really part of my argument. I kind of spent too much time on all that already. -- Curps 07:06, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Dear curps,

I don't know why you are reverting the links which is appropriate for the sections which i added. I added our yoga page link in yoga section. But you are reverting back to orginal. I can't able to figure out what is the reason. can you explain. This is albertindian2001. Thank you albertindian2001

Dear curps,

Thank you for notifying the spamming. I am really sorry. I thought the links were appropriate to those topics so i addes. Will you allow me to add links to yoga and planets section. If you allow me toi do that I will add our yoga section. Our yoga section is also having a lot of information and practicing methods.

Thank you albertindian2001

Hi Curps, when I was considering protecting Tsunami due to the request on WP:RFPP I did notice that most of today's vandalism was coming from only one IP, but also that most of the page history was made up of vandalism from various IPs, and so decided to protect it. Need to still keep an eye on this article in case it needs to be protected again. Regards, silsor 01:25, Jan 29, 2005 (UTC)

blocks

[edit]

Ha, revenge is mine! I beat you to that one, even though you were playing on home ground. --fvw* 09:04, 2005 Jan 30 (UTC)

Yeah, you were a few seconds faster. I've got to go do something else for a few hours, but I have a question: for the block on Sexman69, when our blocks expire, do the indefinite blocks come into effect, or did our blocks nullify those indefinite blocks? How does it work exactly? -- Curps 09:08, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I've finally bitten the bullet and read the source, it turns out that the first block to expire removes all blocks of that address (range blocks only get deleted if a block for that specific range expires). I don't necessarily consider the username against policy (but perhaps I'm assuming too much good faith), so I'm not going to unblock and reblock indefinitely, but I'm not going to object if someone else wants to either. --fvw* 09:16, 2005 Jan 30 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the information. Since two others felt strongly enough about it, I'll defer to their wishes and redo my block as indefinite. -- Curps 09:27, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hello - please make sure to follow Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page before adding items on the ITN template. Specifically, the bolded article has to be updated to reflect the current event. Thank you. :) --mav 09:38, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ah, sorry about that. -- Curps 09:42, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

199.111.225.59

[edit]

Thanks for the revert+block. Last but not least, could you restore the warnings to User talk:199.111.225.59? Feel free to add back the statement about my 3RR violation (I did, stupidly enough. I won't object to a 24h block, though I doubt it'll happen) to avoid accusations of covering things up. --fvw* 03:39, 2005 Jan 31 (UTC)

OK, the talk page is restored. I suppose Noah Peters is the same person as User:199.111.225.59? -- Curps 03:53, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I suspect so, or at least that they're people who know eachother outside of wikipedia. The fact that he's not editing anymore since the block suggests they're using the same IP. --fvw* 03:57, 2005 Jan 31 (UTC)
