"Orphans waste server resources and can potentially leave a server spinning"
- Can someone clarify what spinning means? Jackliddle 00:46, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- It's almost certainly just vivid vocabulary - which would be a Good Thing if it weren't so confusing. I've edited it to 'in trouble', as I can't recall any specialised use of 'spinning' in the Jargon File or anywhere else. --Dom 14:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Point 2.
[edit]This jumbled sentence makes no sense, but I don't understand the software well enough to fix it: "2. Reincarnation is a technique in which machines periodically try to locate the parents of any remote computations try to find their owner; at which point orphaned processes are killed." Or removing words extraneous to the difficulty I'm having, "machines try to locate the parents of computations try to find their owner." Could "try to find their owner" be deleted, since "try to locate the parents" seems to mean the same thing? Art LaPella 05:43, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and made this suggested change. --Dom 14:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. Art LaPella 17:06, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
