I'm not sure about the Maidstone United statitics. I was a regular supporter in the early 70's. He only played and coached one season, 1971-72, having arrived from Hastings and replacing Harry Hill who had managed in the Isthmian League and went to Bromley in 1971 taking a number of players who wanted to remain amateur with him. Houghton was sacked at the end of 71-72 when he failed to win promotion and was replaced by Ernie Morgan who successfully won promotion to the Premier Division of the Southern League in 72-73. I remember him not as a big striker but as a stylish defensive midfielder, strong influence of Bobby Moore to whom he had a strong physical resemblance. Most of Maidstone's goals in that season came from Micky Angel, Colin Toal, Bobby Constable and Alan Walker. At best he scored a handful of goals. Good player though who would have justified a place in the lower divisions of the Football League but for his early coaching ambitions.Thermosoverfil (talk) 18:08, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]If it were not for the fact that this bozo managed some crappy team in the USA.
The subject of the article is not even known in footballing circles in his home country. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.132.247.175 (talk) 02:34, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, because taking a team to the European Cup final doesn't count for anything. What nonsense! Keresaspa (talk) 20:10, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
