Micronations
[edit]The general hostility to entries for micronations is that such micronations are imaginary nations, which usually have little more than a web page and a small club of people who like to pretend they are in a foreign country. Such trifle fantasies do not belong in an encyclopedia.
The reason they don't belong is that Wikipedia, as it stands, already has enough problems living in a geek fantasy here; geek-specific entrys such as the ones Slashdot culture has are far too long; while entries for non-Geek things don't exist at all. For example, most Chilean Universities don't even have stub entries here on Wiki.
There are, as of today, six micronation pages. Five should be kept, one deleted.
- Avram: Keep; the court battle and resultant press coverage makes this significant enough to merit a short encyclopedia entry.
- Hutt River Province: Keep; if this really is mentioned in tourist broucheres of the area, it's worth an entry here.
- Rose Island: Keep; this was undoubtably in the news at the time
- Seborga: Tenative keep; I assume that these people have really been around for over 1000 years. I don't think these guys deserve the standard map and statistics which make them look like a real country, however.
- Nova Roma (Micronation): Delete; this is a small social club, not a micronation. (Wiki agreed, this was deleted)
- Empire of Atlantium: Delete; this is a silly fantasy a group of friends have, not a micronation. I will note, however, [1], which is an article in the press that briefly mentions this "micronation". I also need to note that the user with the psudonym Gene Poole is really George Cruickshank, "Emperor" of Atlantium.
Basically, keep the micronations that have generated news in the newspaper or otherwise have real-world existance; zap the ones that look like propaganda for one's web page or a silly little pet project that isn't even newswrothy enough to make the local newspaper. - Samboy 11:16, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Nova Roma deleted. OK, this is a start.
